ETS Center’s Support Promotes Training in Effective Public School Governance

TRENTON, June 10, 2015 —The Educational Leadership Foundation of New Jersey, the non-profit arm of the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA), today announced that the Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy at Educational Testing Service has provided financial support for the Association’s training of local school district leaders.

As a result of the generosity by the Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy at ETS, the NJSBA was able to offer a successful weekend program for newly elected and appointed board of education members at no cost to local school districts.

A March 2015 training conference took place at the Henry Chauncey Conference Center in Princeton. The program focused on methods to advance student achievement, curriculum and other board training matters. Approximately 73 new school board members took part in this weekend program.

“Research has found that a well-trained board of education focuses strongly on student academic achievement,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, CEO of ELFNJ and the executive director of the New Jersey School Boards Association. “The ETS Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy’s support for ELFNJ has been instrumental in enabling the New Jersey School Boards Association to continue providing the nation’s premier training program for new school board members.”

“School boards play a tremendously important role in the development of great schools,” said Lenora Green, Senior Director of the ETS Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy. “They do so by keeping local school districts on track, setting policies and monitoring student progress. Our support for this program represents ETS’s commitment to developing such leaders whose decisions will advance educational achievement and opportunity for all students.”

ETS is an Innovative Educational Supporter of ELFNJ. Its contribution allows for weekend programming, which is provided to local school boards at no cost, to provide new school leaders their orientation in becoming effective board members.
