ELF supports the Sustainable Schools Academy, which provides hands-on examples and training to school districts, teaching them how to save money and energy while providing optimal learning environments. Sustainable practices reach into the classroom, resulting in healthier schools, reducing operating costs and freeing up money for the classroom where it is most needed to impact student achievement.
Sustainable Schools Academy workshops provide concrete examples, such as how one school district avoided $50,000 in waste management expenses through a comprehensive plan; and how another saved $200,000 in energy costs by combining behavioral modification with facility upgrades. Sustainable Schools Academy workshops will be offered eight times throughout the state, and provide a basic understanding of the what, why and how of sustainability and schools.
