ETS Support Promotes Training in Effective Public School Governance
TRENTON, September 20, 2016 —The Educational Leadership Foundation of New Jersey, the non-profit arm of the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA), today announced that the Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy at Educational Testing Service has provided financial support for the Association’s training of local school district leaders.
As a result of the generosity by the Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy at ETS, the NJSBA will be able to once again offer a weekend program for newly elected and appointed board of education members at no cost to local school districts.
The training will take place March 10-12, 2017 for those board members who are newly elected in November 2016. The program will focus on methods to advance student achievement, ethics, the school board’s role in budgeting, curriculum, policy setting and labor relations, as well as other board responsibilities.
“There is nothing more important than a board that focuses on student achievement,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, CEO of ELFNJ and the executive director of the New Jersey School Boards Association. “There is a strong linkage between a well-trained board of education, and student learning and academic excellence.”
“The ETS Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy’s support for ELFNJ has been instrumental in enabling the New Jersey School Boards Association to continue providing the nation’s premier training program for new school board members. We are grateful for their support.”
“In today’s educational environment, it is imperative that school board members have the necessary knowledge and information to successfully execute their responsibilities and serve their school districts,” said Lenora Green, executive director of the ETS Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy. “Effective and informed school governance plays a major role in advancing quality and equity in education for all learners. Supporting the training for new school board members in New Jersey is aligned with our mission.”
