At the Princeton Marriott, from Feb. 22 through Feb. 24, 2019, 100 recently elected school board members underwent intensive training on how to effectively fulfill their responsibilities in the second of 2019’s two New Board Member Orientation weekend programs.
Attendees spent Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday learning about their new responsibilities, through large and small group sessions on topics including school law, policy, the School Ethics Act, ways to improve student achievement, school finance, labor relations, the board-superintendent relationship, and advocacy.
NJSBA Executive Director Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod praised their hard work and dedication.
“The participants in this year’s New Board Member Orientation weekends impressed me with their commitment to children, coupled with a burning desire to learn the intricacies of school governance,” Feinsod said.
All costs, including meals, materials, and hotel stay, are underwritten by a grant from the Educational Leadership Foundation of New Jersey (ELFNJ). The February program was sponsored by the Educational Testing Service Center for Advocacy and Philanthropy.
